What Is Cricket Bat Refurbishment?
Refurbishment is a comprehensive 5-step restoration process:
- Step 1 — Deep Clean: all stickers, scuff sheet, adhesive residue, and old edge tape are removed using a hot air gun. The bat is cleaned with a sanding machine to expose bare, clean wood.
- Step 2 — Crack Assessment and Repair: every crack — minor and major — is identified and repaired. Hairline cracks are filled and sealed. Deep cracks are glued, clamped, and dried.
- Step 3 — Oiling and Waxing: the bat receives a thorough coat of Z-Bat Wax — our proprietary linseed and wax blend. This replenishes the moisture level in the willow, which depletes over seasons of play. The bat is then polished for surface protection.
- Step 4 — Edge Tape Application: fresh edge tape is applied to all four edges. The bat is sanded before application for a clean bond with no air bubbles.
- Step 5 — Re-Stickering: the customer selects from ZBat's available sticker colour options. New stickers are applied cleanly and sit flush with the bat face. All stickers are ICC-compliant.
When Is Refurbishment Worth It?
Refurbishment is the right choice when:
- The bat's willow still has good spring response — it still sounds good on solid hits
- The damage is cosmetic and surface-level rather than structural
- Multiple minor cracks have accumulated but none are deep enough to compromise the blade
- The bat has sentimental value or was expensive enough to justify restoration over replacement
- The bat's performance has declined due to moisture loss rather than structural damage
Our craftsmen will always tell you honestly if refurbishment is not worth doing on a particular bat. If the blade's willow is exhausted or structurally compromised, we'll say so — and help you choose a replacement.
What Refurbishment Is Not
Refurbishment does not include handle replacement (that's a separate ₹1,499 service), weight reduction (₹499), or knocking-in (₹799). If you need multiple services, we can combine them — contact us for a bundled quote.
Refurbishment also cannot fix a bat that is fundamentally spent. If the willow has lost its spring due to age or over-use, no cosmetic or surface treatment will restore its performance.
The ZBat Wax Difference
Most bat maintenance products on the market are pure linseed oil. Pure linseed is effective but easy to over-apply — too much linseed oil softens the willow, adds weight, and can actually reduce the bat's spring response.
